Professional Development for Academic Staff

In order to promote effective pedagogical and technological approaches, ALTO provides services in two areas: (1) pre-teaching seminars or workshops for new teaching staff or industry practitioners (without higher education teaching experience); and (2) continuous professional development seminars or workshops for teaching staff to keep them up-to-date on their pedagogical approach and use of appropriate and cutting-edge technologies in teaching. The professional development seminars or workshops are to be provided face-to-face, via ZOOM or in video format.

LTEs and teaching awards

The Inspirational Teaching Awards are established to recognize and reward teaching staff who are making inspirational learning and teaching experiences. Learning and Teaching Evangelists (LTEs) are appointed to encourage and motivate fellow academic staff to strive for teaching excellence.

Scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)

SoTL stands for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. It encourages teachers to become scholarly and reflective about their own teaching and students' feedback. Through observation of their own practice, collecting data and information about their classes and trying out pedagogy in classes, it enables teachers and the Schools to understand student learning in the classroom, providing insights into learning enhancement opportunities.

From these insights, SoTL creates new experiences which contribute to research and sharing about innovative teaching and pedagogy, and ultimately enhance the quality of student learning.
