Effective from 1 September 2021, The Open University of Hong Kong has been renamed as Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
University Updates
At a ceremony on 1 Dec, the University conferred Honorary Doctorates on Dr Jing Degang, Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong and Prof. George Woo.
 
Mr Richard Lancaster spoke on ‘Race to Zero: A 30-Year Challenge for a Century-Old Industry’ on 22 Nov.
– Honouring donors –
A naming ceremony for the Fong Connie Nursing Skills Education Unit was held on 17 Nov to thank Miss Fong for her HK$8 million donation in support of the IOH and four healthcare-related research projects.
 
Two nursing teaching facilities in the IOH were named Eddy C Fong Nursing Skills Education Unit and Eddy C Fong CNEC Preparation Room on 9 Dec as a tribute to Dr Fong.
 
– Building partnerships –
 

The University signed a framework agreement with the Futian National Nature Reserve Management Bureau and Shenzhen
University for establishing a Greater Bay Area Mangrove Wetland Research and Development Centre at Deep Bay.

A&SS signed an MOU with The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education on 6 Dec to offer the Academy’s students creative art programmes by which to learn Chinese culture.
 
Another MOU was signed on 6 Dec with Hong Kong Institute of Construction. The two parties agreed to work towards a new part-time Bachelor’s degree programme.
 
– Academic conferences –
The International Conference on Gerontechnology was held from 23 to 25 Nov with the theme 'Gerontechnology in COVID-19: Experiences and Revelation'.
 
The 5th IIBG Academia–Industry Exchange took place online from 3 to 4 December, exploring issues pertaining the era of ‘new normal’.
 
 
RIDCH launched the seminar series on 9 Nov with the inaugural seminar featuring Prof. Xu Zidong, Honorary Professor of the School of Chinese at The University of Hong Kong and Zijiang Chair Professor of the East China Normal University.
