With our strong commitment to academic excellence, our study programmes continued to develop in breadth and innovation. Our expectation is that the programmes and courses we offer will challenge our students and inspire them in their future educational or vocational endeavours.


Our four Schools – the School of Arts and Social Sciences, the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, the School of Education and Languages, and the School of Science and Technology – provide an ever-broader range of distance learning and full-time face-to-face programmes and courses. In addition, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) offers overseas degree programmes, sub-degree programmes, professional programmes, and workplace training and short programmes/courses.


The Schools also organized academic activities to promote intellectual discussion and exchange of ideas.

School of Arts and Social Sciences

Around 40 postgraduate, undergraduate and sub-degree programmes are offered by the School of Arts and Social Sciences to broaden its students’ academic horizons, enhance their intellectual understanding of the humanities and/or social sciences, and equip them with knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of Hong Kong society.

The programmes cover China studies, language and translation, liberal studies, social science, economics, psychology, public administration, creative writing and film arts, and law enforcement and security management.


Forum on global politics and economics

In September 2011, the School organized a public forum entitled ‘Trends in Global Politics and Economics’. Prof. Edward Chen, Distinguished Fellow of the University of Hong Kong’s Centre of Asian Studies, former President of Lingnan University and OUHK Honorary Professor, spoke on major trends in global economics; and Prof. Joseph Cheng, Chair Professor of Political Science at the City University of Hong Kong, discussed major trends in global politics. The event was sponsored by the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation.

Talk on law and order

The School and the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration jointly organized a seminar on ‘An Anatomy of the Law in Hong Kong for Maintaining Public Order’ in October 2011. The speaker was Mr Kevin P Zervos, SC, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Department of Justice.


Associate degree programme in Myanmar

The first graduation ceremony of the Associate of Social Sciences programme in Myanmar was held in Yangon in December 2011. The programme is sponsored by the Cetana Educational Foundation.

Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration

The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration provides degree programmes and credit-bearing courses in business administration to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and skills, and broaden their perspectives to enable them to succeed in the business world.


It presents more than 50 programmes leading to qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Most of these are specially designed to suit the business environment of Hong Kong and Greater China, and they are recognized by a number of professional organizations.


Professional alliances with the ACCA, PVCHK and SASAC

In early 2012, the OUHK signed professional alliance agreements with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of China, and the Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries (PVCHK) to provide continuing professional development programmes for their members. The courses and modules covered by these agreements are provided by the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, and comprise specialized subjects in business administration, professional accounting and Chinese business law.

Academic alliances with partners in mainland China

The School signed a collaborative agreement on offering the e-learning Master of Business Administration training programme with the College of Distance Education, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai. The programme was launched in April 2011.


The School launched the distance learning Master of Business Administration training programme in Mudanjiang, a new teaching point, in April 2011. This programme is offered in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.


Also, a collaborative agreement was signed with Shangdong University in August 2011 for offering the distance learning Master of Business Administration training programme. The programme was first launched in Zhengzhou in October 2011.


Overseas collaboration

In July 2011, the School signed a partnership agreement with STI Education in Myanmar to launch the distance learning Master of Business Administration degree programme in Yangon. The programme was launched successfully in October 2011.


Exploration of new overseas markets

The School participated in the International Council for Open and Distance Education Conference in Bali, Indonesia, and the Online Educa Conference in Berlin, Germany, in October and December 2011 respectively to promote its distance learning and e-learning programmes and seek overseas partners.


Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (Honours) and the Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Accounting (Honours) programmes were accredited by the CPA Australia in August 2011. Graduates of the programmes are entitled to full exemption at foundation level. Currently the programmes are also receiving maximum exemption from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.


The Master of Professional Accounting programme was also re-accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in December 2011 and graduates are entitled to join their Qualification Programme directly.
