Outstanding OUHK members

Three OUHK members honoured with
Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) award

Three OUHK members were awarded the SBS by the HKSAR Government for their distinguished public and community services. President Prof. John C Y Leong, JP, was credited particularly for his significant contribution to the development and enhancement of public library facilities and services in Hong Kong. School of Science and Technology Associate Professor Dr the Hon Joseph Lee, JP, was recognized for his valuable contribution to the development of the nursing profession and his exemplary efforts in improving the quality of public health care services in Hong Kong. And Council member Mr Bunny Chan, BBS, JP, was honoured for his dedicated service to the Kwun Tong community and his valuable contribution to youth development.


Environmental award for OUHK Scientist

School of Science and Technology Dean Prof. Ho Kin-chung was one of the recipients of the National Character Environmental Achievement Award 2008-2009, organized by the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Association. With an honourable 30-year track record in environmental research, Prof. Ho has contributed much to the protection of our oceans and water resources, as well as the promotion of environmental education and co-operation in Greater China. His views are highly sought after by the media and he became the cover person of an issue of the academic journal Scientific Chinese. He is also the president of Green Power and the founder of several green schools in Hong Kong.


Top scorer in international exam

OUHK student Sunny Lau achieved first place standing in the City & Guilds’ Advanced Technician Diploma in Business Information Technology exam, which was taken by 48,000 people in 100 countries. The BBA in Business Information Systems distance learning student, who had sat for the HKCEE three times and now works as a clerk in the airport, said OUHK studies had greatly improved his English writing skills. He hoped to become an IT business executive after his studies.


Association of University Women Scholarship

Ms Cheung Man-kan, a full-time student in the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Chinese Language and Literature programme, was awarded the Beryl Wright Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship by the Hong Kong Association of University Women in recognition of her excellent academic performance and community work.




Au Bak Ling Charity Trust Scholarship

Lily Lee, Rai Sushma, Mike Tam, Angel Mok and Isabell Yeung full-time English and education double degree students of the School of Education and Languages, were each awarded a $10,000 scholarship at a ceremony on 16 January 2010 by the Au Bak Ling Charity Trust, which was established to support student teachers.


Police Silver Whistle Awards for Project Yi Jin graduates

Fok Chun-tung and Lee Hing-ho, graduates of the Yi Jin Certificate in Disciplinary Forces Programme at the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education, who were admitted into the Police College to train as police constables, were presented with the Silver Whistle Award for their outstanding achievements at their Passing Out Parade on 18 July 2009. The OUHK’s School of Arts and Social Sciences has also been providing policing courses in social studies and psychology for recruits training to become police constables and inspectors in the College.


Bronze Award for Student in Karate Tournament

Full-time student Cho Shun-yi won a bronze award at the 19th Joint University Karate Tournament, organized by the Karate Association of Hong Kong Tertiary Institutions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 19 April 2009. She took the prize in the middle level competition for female individuals of 53kg or above.
