Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration

The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration aims to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and skills to succeed in the ever-changing world of business. Recognizing the importance of networking in the field of business, the School has fostered close partnerships and established multi-faceted collaboration with local and overseas professional institutions.


The School collaborated with mainland China and local professional bodies to introduce two new programmes – one for senior executives of state-owned enterprises to get postgraduate qualification and another for accredited accounting technicians to bridge to the degree level. The School also organized international conferences on Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre, ways to revitalize the global economy and marketing management.


Online MBA programme with SASAC and
Shenzhen Preparatory Workshop

A two-year online MBA programme was jointly launched by the School and the Education and Training Centre for Officials and Entrepreneurs of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council on 24 April 2009. Students of this second online programme at master’s degree level of the University were mostly managerial staff from state-owned enterprises. At the ceremony held in Beijing, OUHK President Prof. John C Y Leong thanked Fong Foundation Chair Mrs Nellie Fong for offering her professional advice to turn the partnership plan into reality, and the Centre’s Director Mr Xu Zibing for his enormous support. Separately, the School’s teaching staff participated in a Preparatory Workshop organized by the Public Affairs Unit in Shenzhen on 27 September 2009 for mainland adults interested in taking OUHK’s distance learning courses, which ended with a tutorial lesson for a try-out course on business communication.




Joint top-up blended learning degree programme with HKICPA

The School launched a Bachelor of Professional Accounting (Hons) programme jointly with the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) in September 2009 for graduates of the Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians (HKIAAT). The partnership agreement on the top-up programme, to be delivered through the OUHK’s pilot blended learning mode integrating face-to-face instruction, e-learning and distance learning, was signed on 30 July 2009.

Summit on Hong Kong's international financial statu

Government officials, experts and scholars shared their experiences and insights at a financial summit entitled ‘Opportunities and Challenges for Strengthening Hong Kong’s Status as an International Financial Centre’, jointly organized by the School and the ET Business College, at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong on 7 November 2009. HKSAR Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Prof. K C Chan and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited Chief Executive Mr Paul M Y Chow presented keynote speeches. Panellists included Legislative Council Member (Accountancy) the Hon Paul M P Chan, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Benjamin P C Hung, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Economics Professor Francis T Lui, and Schroder Investment Management (Hong Kong) Ltd Vice Chairman Mr David Y T Lui.




Academy of International Business Southeast Asia Regional Conference

Co-organized by the School and the Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies of Lingnan University, the 2009 Academy of International Business (AIB) Southeast Asia Regional Conference was held on 3-5 December with the theme ‘Revitalizing the Global Economy: Challenges and Strategies for Sustainable Growth’ in the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel. The Conference covered a wide range of topics, from international marketing strategies and risk management to national consumer behaviour and corporate social responsibility. The afternoon session of 3 December was held at the OUHK campus, where Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Managing Director Mr Andrew Kam gave a keynote speech on ’Ensuring the Success of Hong Kong Tourism’.


From OEM to OSM: Conference on Marketing Innovation and
Strategic Management

The Conference on Marketing Innovation and Strategic Management of Transition from OEM (original equipment manufacturing) to OSM (original strategic manufacturing) was co-organized by the School, the South China University of Technology and City University of Hong Kong on 3-5 July 2009, in Guangzhou. The paper, Beyond OEM and ODM, is there a natural path?, co-written by Dr Anthony Ko of the School and Dr Eddie Yu of City University of Hong Kong, received the Best Paper Award at the conference.




Global Citizenship and internship programmes

Exchange and internship programmes, as well as a peer mentorship programme involving senior year students and faculty members, were arranged for full-time students to enrich their university life and broaden their horizons. The School’s BBA (Hons) in Accounting student Wing Tam was one of the 30 top students from local universities selected by the Dragon Foundation to join the 7-day 2009 Global Citizenship Programme, which was held in Bangkok from 28 June 2009, under the theme of ‘The Impact of the Global Financial Crisis on the International Community’. BBA (Hons) in Management student Joanna Ng was among 150 local university students selected from 800 applicants to join the New Youth, New World 2009 Summer Internship Programme and get individual on-the-job training at 60 companies and organizations in Shanghai, Beijing and Dalian throughout June and July 2009. Joanna was stationed at Dragonair’s Shanghai office and had to come up with a proposal to improve the airline’s direct marketing. Accounting students Elaine Chan, Wing Tam and Ding Cheng-li, and Human Resource Management student Tse Yuk-shan were among 72 business students in nine local universities chosen to join the Citi Community Intern Programme jointly organized by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Citigroup.
