General Education Courses

Students should complete the required number of GE courses, each from a different ‘field of study’ other than the same ‘field(s) of study’ of their study programmes. Year 1 Entry students are generally required to complete four 5-credit (20 credits) GE courses. Year 2 Entry students are generally required to complete two 5-credit (10 credits) GE courses. The requirement is applicable to students admitted in 2018/19 and thereafter.

Please follow the steps below in planning your GE course enrolment:

1. Check Advice on Course Selection to see if you are assigned to enroll in any GE course(s) in the term. If you are assigned with a special study plan, details will be communicated separately.

2. Pay attention to

your programme’s maximum number of courses allowed to be taken at Foundation level; and
the field(s) of study of your programme, and do not take GE course(s) of these same field(s). You could check the field(s) and applicable GE courses of your programme in the table below.

4. Normally, if you are assigned to enroll any GE courses in the term, you can self-enroll for the courses during online course selection. If you are not assigned but wish to take GE courses (e.g. retake), you should submit an application to add the courses during application periods.
