Welcome to Academic Advising!  This page will help you understand how academic advising can support you during your studies.

What is Academic Advising?

Academic advising is a service helps you navigate your university journey.  Your advisor is here to:

  • Help you choose the right courses for your programme
  • Explain your programme requirements
  • Help you plan your study path to graduation
  • Answer your questions about your studies

How to Find Your Academic Advisor

Your academic advisor is assigned to you when you start your programme.  Here's how you can find out who your advisor is:

  • Log in to MyHKMU
  • Navigate to 'Student Academic Advising' under the 'Academic' section
  • Your will see your advisor's name and contact information
  • Click on the yellow button, 'New Meeting Request', if you want to schedule an appointment with your advisor

Preparing for Your Advising Meeting

To get the most out of your meeting with your advisor, please prepare beforehand.

  • Write down any questions or topics you want to discuss and share them with your advisor before the meeting.
  • Generate your study plan using the online tool, the Study Planner. This tool will show you which courses you have completed and which courses you still need to take.

When to Contact Your Academic Advisor

If you encounter any problems with your studies, do not hesitate to contact your Academic Advisor or Programme Leader.  Refer to the section 'How to Find Your Academic Advisor' for instructions on making an appointment request with your advisor.
