Student Affairs Office Scholarships and Awards Global Learning Activities
The University offers various funding support for Schools and units to organise global learning activities to enhance students' global outlook and enhance their multi-faceted learning. Sources of funding support includes but not limited to the University's funding scheme, donations and external sponsorship schemes.
Funding Support for Students from All Schools

Mode: Full Time, Part Time/Distance Learning

Level: Sub-Degree, Undergraduate, Postgraduate

Origin: Local, Non-local

Means: By Nomination

Eligibility:

  • Will attend global learning activities which are organised or arranged by HKMU
  • The activity should last for 10 days or below
  • The activity should not be sponsored by other sources of funds
  • Students should not be awarded more than once within the same Academic Year

Amount per Award:

  • Up to HK$6,000 or up to 50% of the total expenses for participating in the activities in Macau, Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland
  • Up to HK$12,000 or up to 50% of the total expenses for participating in the activities outside Macau, Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland
  • The award is granted on a reimbursement basis

Eligibility:

  • Will participate in learning activities, internship or service programmes, as well as national, regional and international events and competitions that are conducted outside Hong Kong and organised/endorsed by HKMU
  • The proposed activities should start from 1st January of current Academic Year and be completed on or before 31st March of next Academic Year
  • Continuing students with CGPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.0 (or 3.22 out of 4.30) or equivalent level at the time of nomination
  • New students should have satisfactory academic results during secondary/ post-secondary education (including public examinations) if their CGPA is not available
  • Applicants who have been awarded of ROA should not be nominated again in the same programme of study

Amount per Award:

  • HK$10,000 for both bachelor's degree and sub-degree students, irrespective of whether they are local or non-local students

Nomination Details:

  • If applicants participate in activities which are organised or arranged by the University (School/ SAO), they are not required to submit applications, please consult School/SAO directly
  • For applicants participate in self-sourced activities, they should submit the online self-nomination via the student portal “MyHKMU” (https://www.hkmu.edu.hk/myhkmu) during the application period

  • Will participate in learning activities, internship or service programmes, as well as national, regional and international events and competitions that are conducted outside Hong Kong and organised/endorsed by HKMU
  • The activity should last for 14 days or above and be held in the current Academic Year
  • Continuing students with CGPA of 2.0 or above and study the full-time face-to-face undergraduate programmes
  • New students should have satisfactory academic results during secondary/ post-secondary education (including public examinations) if their CGPA is not available
  • Local students who are in receipt of means-tested student financial assistance (i.e. FASP) from Student Finance Office (SFO) or whose families are in receipt of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA)
  • Students can receive once throughout the study in programme at the same level of study in Hong Kong

Amount per Award:

  • Ranges from HK$9,000 to HK$60,000 (depends on the destination, duration of the activity and level of student finance (in terms of percentage of full grant) approved by the Government SFO
  • The amount of subsidy granted should not exceed the direct costs arising from the participation in the concerned exchange activity

  • The activity should last for 5 days or above and be held in the current Academic Year
  • Continuing students with CGPA of 2.0 or above and study the full-time face-to-face undergraduate programmes
  • New students should have satisfactory academic results during secondary/ post-secondary education (including public examinations) if their CGPA is not available
  • Local students who are in receipt of means-tested student financial assistance (i.e. FASP) from Student Finance Office (SFO) or whose families are in receipt of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA)

  • Local and non-local students can receive once throughout the study in programme at the same level of study in Hong Kong

Amount per Award:

  • Ranges from HK$1,950 to HK$14,400 (depends on the destination and duration of the activity)
  • The amount of subsidy granted should not exceed the direct costs arising from the participation in the concerned exchange activity

Funding Support for Students from A&SS, B&A, E&L, N&HS and S&T

Mode: Full Time, Part Time/Distance Learning

Level: Postgraduate

School: A&SS, B&A, E&L, N&HS, S&T

Means: By Nomination

Eligibility:

  • Will attend Mainland and overseas academic conferences to present research findings
  • Be a research postgraduate student at HKMU
  • Have completed 6 calendar months of study normally
  • Have a paper affiliated with HKMU relevant to his/her research study accepted for conference presentation

Amount per Award:

  • Up to HK$20,000 for a PhD or doctoral student throughout his/her study period
  • Up to HK$10,000 for an Mphil student throughout his/her study period
  • The award is granted on a reimbursement basis

Nomination Period: All year-round

Nomination Details:

  • Applications, endorsed by the student's supervisor, should be submitted to the relevant School for assessment and approval
  • The Schools will directly inform selected students of the relevant scholarship awards

Remarks: The student is required to submit a financial summary and reimbursement claims to the Finance Office via the relevant School, and a reflection report to the relevant School within one month after the conference

Means: By Application

Eligibility:

  • Will attend global learning activities which are not organised or arranged by HKMU, i.e. self-sourced by the applicants
  • An outbound activity comprising substantive teaching and learning elements to be held in the current Academic Year, and the proposed global learning activities are with host organisations
  • Normally, internships will not be considered as eligible activity of the award, except where they are SAO-recognised global internship programmes
  • SAO-recognised global internship programmes must last at least 4 weeks, or at least 3 days for all other eligible activities
  • Continuing students with CGPA of 2.5 or above and study the full-time face-to-face undergraduate programmes
  • New students should have satisfactory academic results during secondary/ post-secondary education (including public examinations) if their CGPA is not available

Amount per Award:

  • Activity last for 3 to 5 days: HK$3,000
  •  Activity last for 6 to 9 days: HK$5,000
  •  Activity last for 10 to 13 days: HK$7,000
  •  Activity last for 14 days or above: HK$10,000
  • The award will cover up to 70% of the total expenses and applicants must personally contribute at least 30% of the total cost (excluding activities held in Chinese Mainland). All funding received or to be received for the same activity must be fully disclosed in the application form

  • Will attend outbound exchange activities which should last for one term or the immersion programmes which should last for at least 2 weeks
  • Year 1 to Year 4 students who study in Early Childhood Education programmes
  • For applicants who apply the Fund for overseas immersion programmes, they must have participated in learning activities held in Chinese Mainland for 2 days or above in the past 2 years

  • Overseas programme (one term or longer): HK$60,000
  • Overseas or Chinese Mainland immersion programmes (2 weeks or longer): HK$20,000
  • The award is granted on a reimbursement basis

Funding Support for Students from School of Nursing and Health Sciences (N&HS)

Means: By Nomination

Eligibility:

  • Will attend local or overseas conferences
  • Continuing students (including fresh graduates who have graduated within 6 months) with CGPA of 3.0 or above

Amount per Award:

  • Up to HK$5,000
  • The award is granted on a reimbursement basis

No. of Award: Up to 10

Nomination Period:

  • All year round
  • At least 3 months before the registration deadline of the proposed conference

Nomination Details:

  • The University [School of Nursing and Health Sciences] will directly inform selected students of the relevant scholarship awards
  • School will invite selected nominees to fill in a form by providing 500-800 words proposal for the proposed conference

Remarks:

  • Priorities will be given to students with accepted article(s) as author or co-author for conference presentation
  • Students should not receive other award or sponsorship for the same reaching out conference
  • School will arrange disbursement to awardees who must complete the approved activity and submit a satisfactory reflection report
