Joint community activities with Junior Chamber International

In this summer, the collaborative efforts between HKMU N&HS and Junior Chamber International (JCI) at the two healthcare events demonstrated a strong commitment to the community. During the activity of “AED Save a Life” on 27 July 2024, HKMU joined forces with JCI to set up a booth at Fortune Metropolis, Hunghom aimed at educating the public about the significance of diet control in improving blood pressure and preventing heart diseases.

Voluntary service at Homantin Neighbourhood Elderly Centre

Thank you for the invitation from New Life Church of Christ Hong Kong – Homantin Neighbourhood Elderly Centre. Student volunteers from the School of Nursing and Health Studies participated in a workshop on June 14, 2024 (Friday) and collaborated with older people to create tissue paper flower photo frames. Throughout the process of folding tissue paper flowers and assembling photo frames, everyone engaged in conversations and learned from one another, resulting in a joyful and heartwarming experience.

“City Companion” Community Alliance on Promoting Mental Health launched to strengthen Mental Health Support in Kowloon City District

Echoing the Government’s initiative to strengthen community support for mental health, as stated in the 2023 Policy Address, HKMU, together with the Auxiliary Medical Service, Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service, SideBySide, and The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, established the “City Companion” Community Alliance on Promoting Mental Health (the Alliance). Using Kowloon City District as the first pilot, the Alliance aims to provide a range of mental health support services to enhance understanding and awareness among residents in the district of mental health issues.

Successful Completion of Respect for the Aged Festival

Since last year, the Sai Kung Tseung Kwan O Respect for the Aged Festival has organized a series of volunteer activities focused on fall prevention. Our students and teachers, along with other volunteers, have served almost 300 older people in the district by providing health screenings, living environment assessments, and health education.

Respect for the Aged Festival: Home Visits for Older People

To support the community event of “Respect for the Aged Festival”, our School had invited both student and staff volunteers to visit around 50 older people’s homes to assess their living environment by addressing the potential risks of fall that they may face at home. The programme not only improves the safety of the older people but also provides a hands-on learning experience for our students.

Community Outreach Events for Respect for the Aged Festival

The School of Nursing and Health Studies (N&HS) of HKMU collaborated with the Sai Kung and Tseung Kwan O Women’s Association Limited to co-organize a series of community events for the Respect for the Aged Festival. The primary objective of these events was to provide training to the Sai Kung Care Team, enabling them to offer older individuals free health assessments and advice on fall prevention.
