MyHKMU is a portal that serves as your single entry point for all of the University’s online services and content. MyHKMU enables you to: - access all of the University’s online services including the Student Administration System, Open Learning Environment and E-Library by logging in just once;
- personalize the content and appearance of your page to make it easy to access the content and services that you use most often;
- use this channel to communicate with the University and vice versa for important and personalized messages.

Overview - MyHKMU – Return to your MyHKMU homepage at anytime.Preferences – Personalize most of the MyHKMU contents and layout using the controls provided. There are two pages for adjusting user preferences:
Personalize Content page | Personalize Layout page | Allows you to display or hide contents on the homepage by choosing from a list of provided pagelets. | Allows you to set the number of columns and the location of each pagelets on the homepage. |

- Profile Restore – Restore the default contents and layout. You can discard your personalized settings and return to the latest MyHKMU default profile given by the University.
- Guide – View this Guide to using MyHKMU and other help related items.
- Feedback – Submit questions, feedbacks or report any issues to MyHKMU.
- My Links – Drop-down box containing a list of user shortcuts (bookmarks). that you can add/edit to improve your navigation.
- Logout – Logout from MyHKMU.
- Pagelet – Pagelets are small windows containing essential information and/or shortcuts. They provide the basic content elements of MyHKMU; you build up your MyHKMU page by subscribing to or unsubscribing from various pagelets, such as Announcement for Students, Generic Search, My Tasks and FAQ
- Column – Columns help you organizing your page. You can control the number of columns on your page by the controls provided in Preferences.
- Minimize a Pagelet – Minimize or expand a particular pagelet by clicking this button. The icon will change accordingly.
- Remove a Pagelet – Unsubscribe from a particular pagelet by clicking this button.
You can subscribe to the pagelet again with the controls provided in Preferences.

Personalizing Your Content and Layout You can display or hide contents on the homepage by choosing from a list of pagelets provided by the University. Personalize Your Content | Personalize Your Layout A. Personalize Your Content 1. Click on the Preferences link on the homepage that you want to change. | | 2. Select the pagelets that you want to display on the homepage. 3. Click on the Save button to apply the changes. | | 4. You will be redirected back to the homepage. | |
To cancel at any stage, simply click on the link Return to Home. Note If you also want to customize the content layout, click on the Personalize Layout link. Your changes made within this page will be reflected in the Personalize Layout page.
B. Personalize Your Layout To cancel at any stage, simply click on the link Return to Home Note If you also want to customize the content again, click on the Personalize Content link. The pagelet you deleted in this page will be deselected in the Personalize Content page.
Reset Content and Layout to Default Profile You can discard your personalized settings and return to the latest MyHKMU default profile given by the University. Restore your Profile 1. Click the Profile Restore link on the homepage that you want to reset. | | 2. Click on the button Yes – Reset to restore your profile to default. | | 3. To cancel the restore, simply click on the button No – Do Not Reset.

With this pagelet, you can compile a list of dated tasks. This feature not only helps you organizing your tasks with priority and status, but also allow you to attach important file for record. Adding a Task 1. Click the Add a Task button within the My Tasks pagelet. | | 2. The Task Details page will appear. Fill in the information of the new task. 3. Click on the Save button to complete. | | 3. You will be redirected back to the homepage. | |
To cancel from adding this task, simply click on the button Return to Portal.
Adding a File to Your Task 1. Click on the Add File button within the Task Details pagelet. | | 2. Click on the Browse… button to choose a file from your computer. 3. Click the Upload button to start the upload. | |
To cancel from adding a file, simply click on the button Cancel.
Viewing and Editing Your Task 1. Click on the link of a task within the My Tasks pagelet. | | 2. The Task Details page will appear with the task information. You can make any changes to the task on this page. 3. Click on the Save button to apply the change. Click on the Delete button to delete the task. | |
To cancel from changing this task, simply click on the button Return to Portal.
Viewing a Detail List of Your Tasks Click on the link More… from the My Tasks pagelet. In this page, you will see a list of all your tasks. Each task is shown with its status and priority. With the drop-down menu control View, You can filter the list to include all your tasks or tasks that are open (i.e. incomplete tasks).
Setting Display Preferences of My Tasks Customize the My Tasks pagelet by clicking on the Setup My Tasks button. This page allows you to set the default value on the type and number of tasks that appear on the pagelet. To apply the preference changes, click on the Save button.
My News MyHKMU has provided you a simple RSS News reader. You may keep the default News without adjusting any settings. You may customize the RSS News by providing your own News sources. Further more, the pagelet allows you to display more than one RSS News at the same time. Configure your to RRS News sources 1. Click on the Edit RSS News button within the My News pagelet. | | 2. Enter the source(s) of your RRS News. To include multiple RSS News, click the add button to create another row for source entry. | | 3. Click on the Save button to apply your configuration. | |
To cancel changing your RSS news preference, click on the Return to Portal button.
My Links Another feature coming with MyHKMU is the My Links .You can maintain a list of shortcuts (bookmarks of web addresses) within the drop-down box. You can compile your shortcut by adding them from the current page, defining new ones from scratch, editing existing shortcuts and deleting them as you need. You can also organize your shortcuts hierarchically by creating folders. Adding the Current Page to My Links 1. Click on the –My Links– drop-down box in MyHKMU. 2. Select the item Add to My Links from the drop-down menu. | | 3. Enter any name for the link that you are adding. | | 4. Click on the Save button to create a link in My Links. You can revisit the link by selecting it from the — My Link — drop down menu in future. | |
To cancel saving the current page as a link, click on the Cancel button.
Defining New Link from Scratch 1. Select more… from the My Links drop down menu or click on the Edit My Links in the My Links pagelet. | | 2. The page Add to My Links will appear. Select a folder and click on the Add Link button to add a link. | | 3. Enter in the name and the URL for the link that you are adding. If you would like to open this link in a new window, select the checkbox. | | 4. Click on the Save button to create the link. | |
Note If you want to create the shortcut within a new folder, click on the button Add Folder instead. The Add Folder page will appear and allow you to define the folder name. After creating the folder, you can now select this folder and click on the Add Link button beside it. Follow step 2 above to continue.
Other Pagelets Inside MyHKMU, there are other pagelets that we have not included in this guide. You are free to subscribe to them or remove them any time as you like. For example, those for the Online Learning Environment and Electronic Library To choose your pagelet, you can click on the Preferences link in MyHKMU. It will bring you to the Personalize Content page.
New Pagelets From time to time, MyHKMU improves our services by providing new pagelet to our users. Please refer to the Personalize Content page for updated pagelets available to you. If you see any new pagelet in that page, you are allowed to add them into your portal.
