Biography

Morgan Wong is an artist and is currently teaching at the Department of Creative Arts, Hong Kong Metropolitan University. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. Morgan Wong’s artistic practice unfolds his contemplation on time. Transcending a personal perceptual approach, his concerns are expanded to encompass aspects such as socio-historical issues and scientific notions of temporality. His artworks are in museum collections including, M+ Museum, Mill6 Foundation, and Vancouver Art Gallery. He was also awarded the Asian Cultural Council New York Fellowship in 2019 and the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts) at the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2021. Wong has received institutional and corporate commissions for artwork creation, including the M+ Museum, LCSD, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Wong, as PI, has received multiple times for the Arts Development Fund (Cultural Exchange Project) by the Home Affairs Bureau. Wong's work has been shown at international museums including, M+ Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Mill6 CHAT (Hong Kong); CAFA Art Museum (Beijing); Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul), Gwangju Museum of Art (Gwangju), ArtScience Museum (Singapore), Media Museum ZKM (Karlsruhe), Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery (London). To serve the professional community, Wong has been a Board of Directors member for non-profit art space Videotage, an External Examiner for Hong Kong Arts School, and a judge for The Global Undergraduate Awards. Academic citations of his artwork are in Yishu - Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art; book chapters published by Amsterdam University Press and Palgrave Macmillan. Wong’s research has been published by Springer Nature and (forthcoming) Bloomsbury Academic.
