"Film and Life Series"-Screening and Post-screening Talks

The Department of Humanities, Language and Translation organised the “Film and Life Series” (2023 Autumn Term) in October and November 2023.  Curated by Professor Eva Man and Dr Timmy Chen, six Chinese and foreign films were selected for screening on six consecutive Fridays from 6 October to 11 November 2023.
Post-screening talks were arranged to invite participating students and staff to explore the philosophy of life and to rethink their lives.  Famous film critics, directors, and philosophers included Professor Tao Kwok-cheung, Ms Joyce Yang, Mr Pierre Lam, writer-director Wai Ka-fai, Mr Thomas Shin, Ms Pearl Chan, critic-director Freddie Wong, and other guests were invited to share their thoughts on life issues such as life and death, freedom and female liberation, AI and human identity, fate and religion, virus and existence, and colonialism and decolonisation.  One of the post-screening talks, delivered by writer-director Wai Ka-fai on his insights on religious experience and creative writing, attracted more than 200 participants.
