HKMU Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre grandly opens

The Opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies of Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre was held on 21 March 2024.
 
The ceremony was officiated by Dr Ina Ho, the centre honorary advisors Prof May Bo Ching and Mr Leonard Wong Shing-chuen, President Prof Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Vice President (Resources and Development) Prof Lui Yu-hon, Provost Prof Reggie Kwan, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Prof Charles Kwong, and Associate Professor Dr Kelly Chan (Centre Director).

President Prof Lam thanked Dr Ina Ho for her enthusiastic support for the Centre. He hopes that the Centre will focus on research and development of Cantonese opera and performance art forms, as well as the promotion of the traditional art and culture.

Dr Kelly Chan then introduced to the guests the Centre's future plans and activities, and also showcased exhibits including musical instruments collected by Dr Choo Heng-cheong, Cantonese opera scripts by Mr Leonard Wong and Prof Chan Sau-yan, and Cantonese opera magazines collected by Prof Lui Yu-hon. She specially thanked the family of the late Ms Chan Ho-kau for lending her headdress and phoenix coronet she had once worn on stage, and veteran journalist Mr Eric Yeung Chun-yiu for displaying the autographed cheque signed by Ms Fung Wong-lui.
