Chinese (Cantonese) Opera Translation and Operatic Culture International Conference

Welcome to the Chinese (Cantonese) Opera Translation and Operatic Culture International Conference. This conference brings together local and international scholars to explore how Chinese operatic texts travel, transform and endure across languages and cultures, while fostering academic exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue and future collaboration in Chinese opera and theatre studies.

The programme is organized around three themes: Hsiung Shih-I's journey from translator to theatre pioneer; the obstacles and sustainability of bringing Cantonese opera to a global stage; and the cultural transmission of Chinese theatre from Asia to North America. The conference will be conducted in English, with certain presentations delivered in Cantonese.
