| 2 | 20 Apr (Mon) 9:30am – 10:45am Workshop (Active Learning Space, MC LIB) | [Pedagogical Principles and Practices] To Slop or Not to Slop: That Is the AI Question Mr Ross VERMEER Senior Instructional Designer ALTO | As the use of AI spreads throughout our daily lives, a backlash is forming. Many AI users – including coders, writers, artists, educators, and media producers – complain about being flooded with 'slop', i.e. low-quality AI output. AI slop clogs our feeds, and frustrates our attempts to produce content of our own. So is AI slop just harmless amusement – or is it the end of human thinking? Views differ, to say the least. In this seminar we'll learn to identify AI slop, consider its effects on our students (and ourselves), and learn some methods of avoiding and overcoming it, especially in the context of higher education. | Download |
