The main functions of ALTO include the following:
Best practices in teaching, learning and technology – provides support for the professional development of teaching staff, promotes the use of learning-centred technology in the classroom and application of innovative technologies in learning and teaching.
Online Learning Environment – delivery of OUHK courses via an online system developed by the University.
Mobile learning – development of a number of mobile apps to facilitate teaching and learning.
Course materials development and maintenance – including the planning and design of OUHK courses, provision of instructional design and editing services, development of audio-visual and multimedia materials, and delivery of print and digital content.
TV broadcast programmes – production of programmes focusing on a variety of disciplines that are broadcast on TVB Pearl every Sunday.
Classroom AV support – provision of teaching and learning equipment, and support services.
Community projects and collaboration – provision of free OUHK educational resources for public access and also services to external clients.
Open University of Hong Kong Press – publication of academic writing, tertiary level texts and reference books in English and Chinese.
