Global recognition of teaching practice

Teaching excellence is central to HKMU as a teaching university. It promotes student success, staff development, academic career progression and institutional distinction.

To further enhance teaching quality and international recognition, HKMU plans to become an Access Member of Advance HE (target: Q2 2026), an international organisation widely respected for its Fellowship framework that recognises teaching excellence and professional practice in higher education.

Advance HE Fellowship

Advance HE offers internationally recognised Fellowships that acknowledge educators for their professional competence and commitment to high-quality learning and teaching.

Fellowships are awarded on the basis of evidence presented in a Teaching ePortfolio, aligned with the Professional Standards Framework 2023 (PSF 2023) — a benchmark widely adopted by institutions in the UK and internationally.

The Fellowship scheme has four levels (descriptors), each reflecting different roles and responsibilities in teaching and leadership:

Descriptor 1 (D1): Associate Fellow
