Students’ distinguished performance recognised by scholarships

The blossoming talents of HKMU students have been recognised through various scholarships. Recently, seven students were awarded the Link University Scholarship, each receiving HK$20,000 in recognition of their academic excellence and active engagement in community service.

In addition, a record-breaking number of 1,118 HKMU students were honoured under the HKSAR Government's Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme this academic year, collectively receiving HK$19.1 million in scholarships.

Innovation and entrepreneurship projects receive several prestigious national awards

Two innovative projects by students and alumni went on to gain accolades in several nationwide competitions. The project “OxySkin Photosynthetic Polymer Artificial Skin”, conceived by Liu Tsam-yi and Zhang Yongchao, along with colleagues from other universities, aims to commercialise a patented artificial skin that facilitates wound healing. It obtained a Silver Award in the 14th “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition and a Bronze Award in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition 2024.

The other award-winning project was “CantonLink”, a platform for automatically generating Cantonese-to-text language subtitles, developed by Tsang Tsz-yui, Lau Lok-lam, Ng Man-kwan and Fu Jingchang. It received a Bronze Award in the 14th “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition.

Laurels at the sports fields

HKMU athletes delivered exceptional performances across various competitions. In the 2024–2025 USFHK Taekwondo Competition, the Taekwondo Team secured the men's team first runner-up position. In Men's Black Belt Kyorugi, Hau Pok-wai clinched the championship in the Light group, while Wong Kin-laam and Xu Jinxuan earned the third place in the Fin group and the Welter group respectively. In Men's Black Belt Poomsae, Xu Jinxuan and Wong Tsz-shun each won a bronze medal in the “Style 6 and Koryo” category and “Style 8 and Taebak” category respectively. Additionally, they, along with team member Li Lap-fu, brought home the silver medal in the Men's Poomsae Team event.

In the 2024–25 USFHK Dragon Boat Competition, the Dragon Boat Team achieved their best result to date, winning a silver medal in the Small Boat Mixed category. Meanwhile, in the 2024–25 USFHK Karatedo Competition, Karatedo Team members Yeung Ka-chun and Kwok Man-wai earned the third place in the Men's Kumite -67 kg and Women's Kumite -55 kg categories, respectively.

Furthermore, student Lam Siu-wai represented Hong Kong in the G1 Belgian Open Taekwondo 2025 (Kyorugi and Poomsae), claiming a Bronze medal. This marks Hong Kong’s best-ever result in this prestigious tournament. The Women's Table Tennis Team captains Lam Yan-wai and Tsui Yu-yan also claimed the championship in the girls’ doubles in the university section at the Hang Seng All Schools Table Tennis Championships. The team’s performance resulted in a third place finish overall.
