HKMU Foundation off to a flying start

Dear Colleagues,

On 1 September 2023, the University Council established the HKMU Foundation with the aim of maintaining strong ties with our alumni, friends and supporters, while also strengthening our fundraising capabilities. Working together, the Foundation seeks to have a significant positive impact on the University and the wider community.

The Foundation organised its inaugural Annual Dinner on 21 March this year, which was attended by 240 people who gathered for a common cause. The evening was filled with lively auctions and sponsored singing performances, creating an enjoyable atmosphere that united everyone in support of the Foundation’s goals.

Thanks to the dedication and contributions of individuals such as Dr. Peter Lee, Chairman of the Foundation Advisory Committee, Dr. Eddy Fong, Pro-chancellor, and Ir. Dr. Conrad Wong, Council Chairman, and the generous support from our friends and supporters, we raised HK$4.62 million, which will be allocated to several key areas, such as providing financial assistance to students in need, establishing specific bursaries for HKMU inmate students, and supporting the general development of the University, including preparatory work for the construction of the Hub for Community Health and Wellness.

The success of the Foundation Dinner highlights not only the commitment of our council members from the Open University days, but also the unwavering dedication of our supporters, whether in attendance or sponsoring tables. Their support demonstrates a deep commitment to the university, its values and the opportunities it creates.

The success of the HKMU Foundation dinner is a testament to the shared passion and commitment of all our colleagues, especially those from DAAO, SAO and ALTO, who spent many months bringing the project to fruition.

I encourage you to stay tuned for more exciting events in the near future.
