Empowering Student Life at HKMU

Dear Colleagues,

At Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), our students are our key stakeholders. As HKMU moves forward, we remain committed to understanding how our students are progressing and how effectively we are supporting their development.

Despite the physical constraints of our small campus, HKMU is dedicated to providing an enriched and holistic campus experience. One of the ways we achieve this is by organising a wide range of purposeful and engaging out-of-classroom activities that complement academic learning.

In this regard, our university sports teams play a vital role in fostering a strong sense of belonging and connection among students, alumni and the broader University community.

Since becoming a full member of the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong (USFHK) in 2022, HKMU has actively participated in intervarsity competitions. Over the past four years, our sports teams have achieved commendable results through dedication, teamwork and perseverance.

Last year, the Men's Taekwondo Team finished second overall, while the Men's Table Tennis Team placed fourth.

This year marked a significant milestone, with most teams advancing to the top eight among 13 competing tertiary institutions.

Notably, the Women's 3×3 Basketball Team and the Men's Table Tennis Team won silver medals in the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup. In addition, the Men's 3×3 Basketball Team secured second place in the USFHK 3×3 Basketball Championship, earning the opportunity to represent HKMU at the Asian University 3×3 Basketball Championship in June 2026.

The University's performing arts groups have grown significantly. The HKMU Chamber Orchestra was launched in June 2025 and has since performed at local and international events organised by the University.

Recruitment for the HKMU Chinese Orchestra began in 2025, receiving an overwhelming response. Their inaugural performance is eagerly anticipated.

Supporting these student-led initiatives is the Student Affairs Office, which works closely with the Student Union, an integral part of HKMU, in formulating and implementing student-related policies. We deeply value this unique partnership and remain committed to strengthening dialogue and collaboration between university management and the Student Union and its member societies.

Together, we strive to build an enlightening, inclusive and collegial university community.
