Personal Information Collection Statement (PICS)
Hong Kong Metropolitan University ('HKMU' or 'the University') respects your right to personal data privacy and is committed to complying with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance ('PDPO').
Purpose of Data Collection
The personal data you provide in this subscription form will be used by the University for one or more of the following purposes:
- Distributing HKMU e-publications and other University-related news, announcements and event invitations;
- Communicating information about HKMU programmes, activities and developments, including direct marketing communications, subject to your consent where required; and
- Any other purposes directly related to the above purposes.
Providing your personal data is voluntary. However, if you do not provide the requested information, the University may be unable to process your subscription or deliver the latest HKMU news to you.
Transfer of Personal Data
HKMU will keep your personal data confidential. Your data may be disclosed or transferred to:
- relevant offices within HKMU; and
- third-party service providers and contractors (including email marketing platforms or IT service providers) engaged by the University solely for the purposes outlined above.
These third parties are under a duty of confidentiality and are permitted to use your personal data only for the purposes specified by the University.
Use of Personal Data for Direct Marketing
HKMU intends to use your personal data (including your name and contact details) for direct marketing purposes, which may include sending you information about:
- HKMU's academic programmes;
- seminars, events and activities; and
- other news and developments related to the University.
The University will not use your personal data for direct marketing purposes unless it has obtained your consent. You may tick the relevant box on the subscription form to indicate that you do not consent to such use.
Data Retention and Opt-out
Your data will be retained only as long as you remain a subscriber. You may withdraw your consent to receive communications, including direct marketing materials, at any time and without charge by contacting the Public Affairs Office of HKMU via email at pao@hkmu.edu.hk.
Access and Correction of Data
Under the PDPO, you have the right to:
- request access to the personal data about you held by the University; and
- request correction of such personal data if it is inaccurate.
Requests for access or correction should be addressed to the Data Protection Officer of HKMU. The University may charge you a fee to cover the administrative costs of complying with a data-access request.
