Biography
Dr Daniel LIU Xianliang serves as the Associate Dean (Development and Strategic Relationships), Head of Population Health, and an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Dr Liu holds a Doctor of Medicine from Tongji University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the Australian Catholic University. He further advanced his research expertise through postdoctoral training at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Recognized for his academic and professional excellence, Dr Liu is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds a prestigious Membership through Distinction from the UK Faculty of Public Health. Before joining HKMU, he held key academic and leadership roles at Charles Darwin University in Australia. He served as the Outstanding Future Researcher, the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Coordinator and the Co-Director of the Charles Darwin Centre for Evidence-Based Practice, an affiliate group of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI).
As a dedicated and active researcher, Dr Liu's work focuses on improving patient care. His main research interests include evidence-based practice for long-term conditions, managing cancer symptoms, health education, patient self-management, and complementary therapies in nursing. He has a strong track record of securing competitive grants to fund his research and educational projects, including major support from the Australian Government and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. To date, he has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, making significant contributions to nursing innovation and evidence-based clinical practice. Dr Liu is also highly engaged in the global academic community, serving as an Associate Editor for Systematic Reviews and JBI Evidence Implementation, and as an Editorial Board Member for BMC Nursing and BMC Public Health. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Effectiveness Methodology Group and the Evidence-based Point-of-Care Methodology Group at the JBI. Through his ongoing research, teaching, and professional service, Dr Liu continues to make a lasting impact on nursing education and healthcare quality worldwide.
