Biography
Dr. Cheung is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). He earned his B.Sc. in Molecular Biotechnology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In 2014, he completed an M.Phil. in Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, followed by a Ph.D. in Microbiology at CUHK in 2020.

Academic & Professional Experience
Dr. Cheung is a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist under Part I of the register maintained by the Hong Kong Medical Laboratory Technologists Board. With over 10 years of experience in microbiology testing across the private and public sectors, he has established a strong expertise in the field. Prior to joining HKMU, he served as a Scientific Officer (Medical) at the Public Health Laboratory Services Branch of the Department of Health.
Dr. Cheung's research focuses on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and emerging infectious diseases, including COVID-19. He has been appointed as a HOKLAS Technical Expert (ISO 17025) in 2025 and Technical Assessor (ISO 15189 Medical Testing) since 2022 by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service, under the Innovation and Technology Commission. Additionally, he serves as a member of the editorial board for Scientific Reports and BMC Microbiology.
