Biography

Ir Alex Jia XU received his BEng degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation from Harbin Engineering University and his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before joining Hong Kong Metropolitan University, he worked as an Engineer in the Industrial Centre of PolyU, mainly responsible for R&D and training in robotics and intelligent systems, where he accumulated extensive experience in robotics, mechatronics and industrial automation through involvement in both industrial and academic projects. His research interests include infrastructure system automation, mechanical and product design, and electrochemical cells for renewable energy conversion and storage. He has contributed to several patents and publications in these areas and has received international and local awards, including the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva and the Gold Award in Smart Mobility (Smart Transportation) at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2019. He obtained his professional qualification as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council of the United Kingdom and is a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and a Corporate Member of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).
