The Innovation X Cultural Exchange Tour, organised by the School of Open Learning, was successfully held on 17 April 2026. Through a series of site visits and hands-on exploration, students gained valuable insights into the nation's technological development and historical culture, broadening their horizons.
The tour began in Pingshan with a ride on the SkyShuttle, where students experienced the convenience and innovation of autonomous transit firsthand, sparking a keen interest in self-driving technology. The group then visited the BYD Exhibition Hall, where, through guided explanations on “Smart Manufacturing” and “Green Technology,” students gained a deeper understanding of the achievements and future trends of China's new energy vehicle industry.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the China National GeneBank, one of the four major national gene banks in the world. Facing a vast collection of over 10 million genetic samples, students explored the latest developments in life sciences and biotechnology, gaining a better understanding of the country's research capabilities. To conclude the trip, the group headed to Dapeng Fortress for an open exploration of Shenzhen's historical culture, immersing themselves in the profound cultural heritage of the ancient town.
By blending technology and culture, this tour enabled students to step out of the classroom, broaden their horizons, and strengthen their understanding of national development. Participants shared that the tour was both enriching and rewarding, expressing their hopes for more activities that would help them keep pace with the nation’s rapid progress.
