We are delighted to extend a special invitation to you to participate in the “HKMU Photo Contest” organized by the School of Open Learning (SOL), as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of our university.

With its rich history and countless stories, HKMU’s campus has become a place of inspiration and wonder. We believe that your unique perspective and creative potential can beautifully capture the essence of our beloved campus through the lens of your camera. We encourage you to take this chance to express yourself, tell your story, and leave an indelible mark on the 35-year legacy of HKMU.

Targets participants: Distance-learning and Part-time Students

Theme: Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Submission Period: From 1 to 20 March 2024

Announcement of Results: Early April, 2024

Awards and Prizes:

Champion: Certificate and $1,500

1st Runner-up: Certificate and $1,000

2nd Runner-up: Certificate and $800

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Each participant can only submit one photo. Any repeated submissions from the same participant, the organizer will consider the last successful submission only.
  2. By submission, the entrant confirms that the submission does not breach any law of Hong Kong regarding the legality of entering the competition. The organizer will not be responsible for any entrant entering the competition unlawfully or otherwise in breach of Hong Kong law.
  3. The use of any photography equipment is allowed, but only submissions in digital format in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format will be accepted. The file size of a submission should be between 5MB and 15MB, with a minimum width of 1,600 pixels (horizontal photos) or a minimum height of 1,600 pixels (vertical photos).
  4. Photos can be in black and white or color.
  5. Photos with any watermarks or signatures will not be accepted.
  6. Entrants may only crop their photos moderately and make minor adjustments such as burning, dodging, or color correction.
  7. The format for the naming file should be: Your name_Title of Photography (can be in Chinese or English).
  8. The winners might be asked to submit a high-resolution file before the official announcement of the final results. Please keep all original data of the submitted photos. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any winners who are not able to submit the original photo.
  9. The photos must not contain or depict any illegal, immoral, obscene, pornographic, provocative, offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, indecent or infringing content of legal rights (including intellectual property rights) of any third party, or any other inappropriate content. The organizers reserve the right to reject any submitted photograph and have sole and absolute discretion in determining what constitutes inappropriate content.
  10. The organizer owns the copyrights of all entries and will have the right to use all entries for promotion, exhibition, and publication purposes. Prior notice or payment to participants for the copyright is not required.
  11. The organizer reserves the right to refuse any entry to participate without explanation.
  12. Decisions of the judges are final and binding on all parties concerned, and shall not be disputed or appealed.
  13. In case of any inconsistency between the Chinese and English versions of the regulations and descriptions, the Chinese version shall prevail. The SOL reserves the right to interpret, amend, and supplement the competition’s rules, regulations, and award descriptions.

Judging Criteria:

  1. The Champion, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up will be evaluated by professionals invited by the SOL based on the following criteria:
      1. Theme Content (25%)
      2. Photography Skills (30%)
      3. Composition Skills (30%)
      4. Creative Concept (15%)

The judging panel’s decisions are final and binding.

Submission Method:

Participants should complete the enrolment form and upload their photos through the form during the submission period from 1 to 20 March 2024, 11:59 PM (Hong Kong time). Each participant can only submit the enrolment form once. The organizer will take the last successful submission as final for repeated submissions.

Announcement of Winners:

The list of winners will be announced in early April on SOL’s social media platforms (Facebook / Instagram) and website. Winners will also be notified via email.
