The “MU Global Citizenship Programme 2025” aims to cultivate students’ global mindsets through a series of thematic, eye-opening activities addressing various global issues. These activities are designed to help students gain a deep understanding of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) identified by the United Nations (UN), enhance their comprehension of community engagement, and encourage reflection on their roles and contributions in advancing these goals.

Additionally, students took part in a community engagement exploration trip to Tokushima, Japan, where they supported community work organized by local residents, such as visiting children’s centers, cleaning rivers, and organizing cultural exchange nights. During the Yoshino River Festival, students assisted with event operations and waste sorting and recycling, as well as planned and managed a Hong Kong-themed booth to showcase Hong Kong’s community engagement experiences, fostering cross-cultural exchange.

Students’ Empowerment Project

During visits to a local children's centre, the team designed and implemented a range of interactive activities centred on Hong Kong culture. These included games and hands-on workshops themed around traditional Hong Kong games, local cuisine, transportation, and coin culture, such as making paper-clay keychains and sketch bookmarks. Through fun and engaging formats, the activities introduced local children to the design features, stories, and cultural significance behind Hong Kong culture, enabling them to learn about everyday life in Hong Kong and appreciate the similarities and differences between the two cultures.

During the Yoshinogawa Festival, the team set up two Hong Kong–themed booths and interactive activities, featuring a neon sign game, a mini Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree, a “Rainbow Toss” game, and interactive prizes incorporating elements of Hong Kong transportation, street signage, and iconic landmarks. A quiz introducing the Tin Hau Festival was also included, allowing local residents to gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong culture through enjoyable interactions. At the same time, the team shared insights into the efforts of the Hong Kong government and non-governmental organisations in cultural preservation and community development, thereby fostering cross-community cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
