Motto: Sail against the wind and push hard.

Kwong Ho Yin first played the dragon boat game in 2017. With talent and diligence, Kwong got into the Hong Kong team in 2018, representing Hong Kong in international dragon boat races.

“Senior and junior paddlers had training together. I found it difficult to catch up with other teammates at the beginning so I took part in every training session to get improvement,” Kwong says. “Although the training centre was far away from school and I often had to rush for training, I treasured every training opportunity. I also worked out in the gym to enhance muscle strength.”

Kwong has taken part in local and international dragon boats races and performed well. In June 2019, his team, representing Hong Kong, won the championship in the Hong Kong Cup dragon boat race in Yokohama, Japan. He also got the crown in Men Youth U23 and Men Open Relay in 8th Hong Kong Indoor Dragon Boat Championships (“Championships”) in 2018, as well as the runner-up in Mixed Youth U23 Relay in 9th Championships in 2019.

“I love team sports and team spirit. I feel really good when teammates support each other to finish the competition.”

Kwong has studied a sports programme at HKMU and been a member of the university dragon boat team to further gear up himself. “I have learnt more about sports and exercise psychology and effective physical training.”

With achievements in sports and games, Kwong is awarded the Talent Development Scholarship. “I have never thought of getting the scholarship. I will continue to equip myself to enhance my competitiveness, like getting personal fitness trainer certification.”
