1. I am a student with Special Education Needs. Should I report to the University?

Yes, you are highly encouraged to self-declare your SEN to the University. By completing the online registration with the Student Affairs Office (Support for SEN) after admission or at your earliest convenience, you can receive timely and appropriate support arrangements. Early registration ensures that necessary accommodations can be put in place for your classes and examinations without delay.

2. What kind of documents should I prepare if I intend to apply for University Support Services and Special Examination Arrangements?

You are required to provide relevant and recent documentary evidence to support your application. This includes:

  • Medical/ assessment report issued by a registered medical practitioner or a qualified specialist with the following information:
    • Type(s) of SEN
    • Impact of captioned SEN on learning
    • Recommendation on special accommodations
  • Documentary evidence showing the special accommodations received from previous school/ university/ examination
and assessment authority with the following information:
    • The details of special accommodations received

4. What is the role of SAO in supporting students with SEN?

SAO – SEN Support is the central coordinator in supporting students with SEN. We will communicate with Course Coordinators, student counsellors and other relevant units in order to accommodate the need(s) of the students concerned.

5. Do I need to re-apply for the SEN support service every year?

No, you are not required to re-apply every year unless your SEN conditions change. Your SEN registration and accommodation plan are typically valid for the academic year. However, you must proactively contact the Course Coordinator (CC) for each new course at the start of the semester to discuss and arrange the specific in-class accommodations for that course, as assessments and requirements may differ.

6. If I have some updates on my situation and needs, what should I do?

If your circumstances or needs change during your study, you are required to submit an updated application on system with the most recent supporting evidence. This ensures that the support provided remains current and aligns with your evolving requirements.

7. How can I receive SEN-related information, such as internship or scholarship opportunities?

You can learn more about the latest information on SEN support services through receiving SEN support newsletter regularly.
