Personal Information Collection Statement for Applicants for Admission

Collection of Personal Information

You must provide the University with the personal data required by the application form. If you do not provide the data requested, the University may not be able to process your application or provide you with the necessary support during your study at the University.

Use of Personal Information

The personal information you provided to the University will be used for administration purposes during application for admission, (if admitted as a student) during programme registration, throughout your study and upon leaving the University, which may include the following:

During application for admission

• as a basis for selection for admission
• as the basis for consideration for the award of scholarship
• identifying possible multiple applications and obtaining records of your current and previous studies at the University and other institutions
• verifying your identity, academic qualification(s) and experience, where applicable
• facilitating communication on admission-related matters between you and the University
• conducting statistical analysis, quality assurance and review
• other purposes directly relating to any of the above

During study and upon leaving the University

• academic advising and assessment
• student development activities organized by the University
• programme planning and evaluation
• credit transfer, course exemption, graduation and congregation
• verification of qualifications
• communication between you and the University
• emergency contact and health-related support under emergency situations determined by the University
• provision of student services and benefits
• checks for concurrent registration at UGC-funded institutions
• conducting statistical analysis, quality assurance, surveys and review
• compliance with legislation and regulations of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and those of other jurisdictions relevant to University business
• other purposes directly relating to any of the above

Disclosure and Transfer of Personal Information

The University will keep such data confidential but may need to transfer it to third parties assisting the University in carrying out the admission exercise or providing academic and administrative services to the University.

If your application is successful, the personal data will be transferred to your student file established by the University and may also be transferred to partner institutions, for the purposes of student and University administration.  Please refer to Personal Data (Privacy) Notice of the University for use and transfer of personal information of students.

If your application is unsuccessful, the University will destroy your application form and related documents after the admission process is completed.

Access and Correction of Personal Information

You have the right to ascertain whether the University holds personal data on you, to obtain a copy of such personal data and to have inaccuracies corrected. Data access and/or correction requests should be made by filling out a Data Access Request Form OPS003 specified by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data and addressed to:
