Advanced Standing Scheme for Full-time Undergraduates

There are three types of Advanced Standing available for direct application, namely:

    • Credit Transfer
    • Course Exemption
    • Block Credit Transfer for English Language Courses and / or General Education (GE) Courses
  • Credit Transfer is considered on a course-by-course basis, such as:
CHAN Tai Man (previously studied ABC Institute-HD in Technology) – ‘Technology Fundamentals’ used to claim for ‘Introduction to Technology’ in a HKMU programme.
  • The student, upon approval, will earn the credits of the corresponding course(s) that contribute(s) towards the award of the programme.
  • Credits transferred are excluded from GPA calculation, while they will appear on transcripts.
  • All credits transferred will be counted towards satisfying the programme requirements for one award only.
  • Qualifications in satisfying the entry requirements of a programme cannot be used for Credit Transfer within the same programme. For instance, if a student has used a Higher Diploma in English to enter Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours of HKMU, the courses studied in that Higher Diploma in English cannot be used to transfer credits in Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours.
  • The maximum number of credits transferred is capped at 50% of the total credit requirement for the academic award of the respective programme.
  • Students may be exempted from taking (a) specific course(s) of a programme based on their prior learning achievements.
  • In the case of approved exemption, students will be required to complete (an)other course(s) to make up the total credits required for the academic award of their programme.
  • Exempted courses are excluded from GPA calculation, and will not appear on transcripts.
  • Qualifications in satisfying the entry requirements of a programme cannot be used for Course Exemption within the same programme.
  • Block Credit Transfer considers the learning experience of students in their prior study.
  • Only students admitted to Year 1 are eligible for Block Credit Transfer for English language courses and/or GE courses (i.e. inapplicable to Senior Year entrants).
  • Credits transferred are excluded from GPA calculation, while they will appear on transcripts.
  • In the case of Block Credit Transfer for English language courses, the medium of instruction and assessments of the prior qualification must be in English.
  • The maximum number of credits transferred is capped at 50% of the total credit requirement for the academic award of the respective programme.
