Principles of Adaptive Sports

This core course is designed to empower students with in-depth knowledge of adaptive sports, exploring its history, benefits, and challenges, from general public participation to Paralympic excellence. Students will gain interdisciplinary insights and ethical perspectives to drive positive changes for individuals and communities.

Sports Medicine in Adaptive Sports

This core course offers students expertise in medical adaptations for athletes with impairments, learning evidence-based injury prevention and management, holistic care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. It emphasises ethical practices, including adherence to anti-doping regulations, while equipping students with the essential skills to support athlete health and optimise performance in adaptive sports.

Experiencing Adaptive Sports

This core course offers a dynamic mix of theory and hands-on learning. Students engage with stakeholders, explore societal barriers through the Social Model of Disability, and gain practical insights into adaptive sports. By exploring adaptive sports, students develop empathy, challenge perceptions, and drive inclusive sports participation for all.

Classification in Para-sports

This core course offers students a deep dive into the principles and impact of classification systems in Para-sports. It examines key topics such as International Paralympic Committee (IPC) standards, fairness, inclusivity, and ethical considerations. Combining theory and practice, this course prepares students to shape the future of equitable Para-sports competition.

Scientific Inquiry in Adaptive Sports

This core course aims to develop students' ability to critically analyse, synthesise, and apply research methodologies within adaptive sports contexts. It emphasises ethical research practice, evidence synthesis, and the application of implementation science frameworks to design sustainable solutions.

Planning and Evaluating Adaptive Sports Programme

This core course equips students to design, implement, and evaluate adaptive sports programmes that break barriers and meet diverse needs. Grounded in the Social Model of Disability, this course combines theory, practice, and stakeholder input to create inclusive activities that empower individuals, enhance well-being, and promote social inclusion.

Sports Sciences in Adaptive Sports

This elective course offers interdisciplinary insights into scientific principles, evidence-based practices, and ethics in adaptive sports. Students will analyse research, enhance athlete care, and promote inclusivity and equity, gaining skills to advance adaptive sports at both recreational and elite levels.

Research Project
