HKMU scholars exhibit inventions at Business of IP Asia Forum 2024

Scholars from Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) presented their groundbreaking inventions at the Business of IP Asia Forum 2024, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on 5–6 December 2024. The Forum brought together intellectual property (IP) owners, investors, professionals, and business leaders from around the world to exchange insights, trends, and developments in IP, establish business connections, and explore partnership opportunities.

During the two-day Forum, Dr Vaithinathan Karthikeyan, Senior Lecturer in the School of Science and Technology (S&T), showcased a solid-state air-conditioner manufactured using sustainable 3D additive manufacturing techniques. This invention boasts advantages such as energy efficiency, noiseless operation, and being emission-free. Dr Dani Assi, Lecturer in the School of S&T, featured an innovative brain solution known as the “neuro brain-computer interface”, designed to enhance cognitive functions, support healthy aging, and offer therapeutic options for neurodegenerative diseases. Dr Hongli Huang handles the machine learning and data mining for these projects. In addition, Dr Dani Assi shared his insights on bringing technology to business at the Innovation Demo held during the Forum. His presentation encompassed three HKMU projects: “neuro brain-computer interface”, “solid-state air-conditioner”, and “development of optimized plasmonic quantum chips for sensitive cancer biomarker detection”. These projects are guided by Prof. Roy Vellaisamy.

This enriching event served as a prime platform for HKMU scholars to highlight their research accomplishments and pursue business opportunities for their innovations. The exposure of HKMU’s innovative solutions contributes to fostering successful partnerships and converting these advancements into practical solutions for the benefit of society.
