Prof. Linda Lee
Welcome Message: A very warm welcome to the Symposium on Technological Innovation in Nursing Education organized by the School of Nursing & Health Studies of The Open University of Hong Kong (the OUHK). Virtual reality and simulation has been widely adopted in nursing education. It is known as an effective educational pedagogy in fostering the development of critical thinking and decision making abilities, as well as clinical competence of nursing students. Such pedagogical practice could provide immediate feedback on student performance which, in turn, could help enable students to evaluate and improve their own performance in a timely way. With the advancement in educational technology and incorporation of virtual reality and simulation in skill teaching, learning experiences of nursing students have been enriched, students are better facilitated to appreciate the essence of caring and, most importantly, are more able to translate it into their nursing practice. The School of Nursing & Health Studies of the OUHK has been a pioneer in promoting the use of immersive virtual reality and simulation in nursing education. We take pride in organizing this symposium, to provide a platform for the sharing of research and practice experiences related to virtual reality simulation, and promoting scholarly exchange and collaboration among different stakeholders that have interest in educational technology. On behalf of the School of Nursing & Health Studies of the OUHK, I wish all of the local / international speakers, invited guests, moderators, and participants a fruitful time in the symposium.
