The Bachelor of Nursing Studies (General Health Care) programme is a conversion programme designed for Enrolled Nurses (General) who wish to become Registered Nurses (General). The curriculum is structured to foster life-long learning and planning for professional career advancement in general health nursing.
By building on the previous nursing knowledge and clinical experience of Enrolled Nurses (General), the Bachelor of Nursing Studies (General Health Care) programme aims to equip Enrolled Nurses (General) with the essential academic knowledge, professional skills and clinical problem-solving capabilities to become Registered Nurses (General) in Hong Kong.
To comply with the requirements of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong for the training of Registered Nurses (General), applicants must fulfil (A), (B), (C), (D), and (E):

I. Applicable to applicants with Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results:
b) The compulsory subjects required are:
iii. Any two other subjects at Grade E (or Level 2 for Chinese Language) or above; Accommodation and Catering Services, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Buddhist Studies, Chemistry, Chinese History, Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Commerce, Computer and Information Technology, Design and Technology, Design and Technology (Alternative Syllabus), Economics, Economics & Public Affairs, Electronics and Electricity, English Literature, French, Geography, Government and Public Affairs, Graphical Communication, History, Home Economics (Food, Home and Family), Human Biology, Integrated Humanities, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Putonghua, Religious Studies, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Word Processing and Business Communication (English); iv. Any one other subject at Grade E or above. c) Any one of the subjects listed in (b)(i) to (b)(iii) must be at Grade C (or Level 3 for English Language or Chinese Language) or above; or | |
II. Applicable to applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) results:
b) The 5 compulsory subjects required are:
ii. 1 Elective Subject from Category A* – New Senior Secondary Subjects at Level 2 or above. *For details of Categories A and B subjects, please refer to the “Booklet on Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination” available on the website of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority at http://www.hkeaa.edu.hk/en/Resources/leaflets. For Category B – Applied Learning Subjects, students awarded “Attained” results will be considered by the Education Bureau as having acquired the competencies as those at Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Level 2 for the purposes of further studies and work. # For candidates who took Liberal Studies in 2023/24 or before, Level 2 or above in Liberal Studies will be regarded as “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development. | |
(E) | Higher Diploma in Nursing (QF level 4) or hold recognised equivalent qualification. |
The programme consists of 96 credit-units, comprising theoretical courses, clinical practicum, English language courses, and university core courses. It is expected that students will normally complete the programme within four years. The maximum study period is six years. Students are required to complete the credit-units as follows:
