Introduction

The Bachelor of Nursing with Honours in Mental Health Care programme nurtures ethical, compassionate professionals to address evolving mental health challenges. Through integrated academic and clinical training, students acquire essential skills for safe, person-centred, evidence-based psychiatric care. Emphasising critical thinking, therapeutic communication, and integrity, graduates are equipped to promote individual and community mental well-being across diverse settings.

Programme Aims

The Bachelor of Nursing with Honours in Mental Health Care Programme aims to prepare undergraduate students with the essential professional knowledge, skills and competence to:

  • meet current and emergent needs of individuals, families, the community and the health care delivery system
    of Hong Kong;
  • apply a holistic approach of health to nursing practice and act as change agents;
  • appraise and apply evidence-based practice in their day-to-day professional activities;
  • be able to think critically and work in teams, be self-directing and culturally sensitive; and
  • become Registered Nurses (Psychiatric) in Hong Kong.

Admission Requirements

  • JUPAS:
    Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE):
    – Chinese Language: Level 3 or above;
    – English Language: Level 3 or above;
    – Mathematics (Compulsory Part): Level 2 or above;
    – Citizenship and Social Development: Attained; and
    – TWO Elective Subjects: Level 2 or above
    (Preferably Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Health Management & Social Care)

     

  • Direct Admission
    Non-JUPAS candidates (e.g. International Baccalaureate Diploma, GCE A-Level, or Associate Degree and Higher Diploma in Hong Kong) shall satisfy the general entrance requirements of the University and Level 3 in English Language and Chinese Language in HKDSE or equivalent*.

    *The minimum entry requirements for training of Registered Nurses as stipulated by Nursing Council of Hong Kong.

Programme Structure

The five-year full-time programme comprises 154 credit-units, integrating theoretical courses, clinical practicum, general education, and university core requirements. Students develop a strong foundation in psychiatric and mental health nursing through core knowledge, specialised care, research, life sciences, pharmacology, and behavioural sciences, preparing them for professional practice and personal growth.
