Biography

Dr. Jacky CHAN is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing and Health Studies at The Hong Kong Metropolitan University. He obtained his Doctor of Nursing degree from The University of Hong Kong, specializing in healthcare simulation and human factor engineering. In January 2024, he was awarded the Fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Academy (FSSH), being the first person in Hong Kong to receive this qualification. Additionally, he was a visiting fellow (2020-2021) at the Centre of Medical Simulation at Harvard University. In addition, Dr Chan is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing in Education (FHKAN) and a Fellow of Institute of Search and Technical Rescue (FInSTR) in UK, specialization in Drone Medical, Search and Rescue operation.

Before joining the academic field full-time, Dr. Chan started part-time teaching in 2005. He holds 15 international instructor qualifications and has achieved 10 instructor-trainer levels in areas such as American Heart Assocation Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS for Experienced Providers (EP), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), ITLS ACCESS, ITLS Paediatric, WMS Wilderness Life Support (WLS), Drone Search and Rescue (DSaR), Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS), Tactical Medicine Essential (TME), Emergo Train System (ETS), IAED Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), NAEMT Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), and lecturing on First Aid (Cap. 509A Labour department accredited program).

About management, since 2009, Dr. Chan has managed various simulation centers as the Nurse-in-Charge, leading 70 to 120 part-time instructors. Since 2013, he has also been involved in planning and commissioning projects of various scales, including individual centers, floors, and hospitals, with budgets ranging from 20 million to 7.5 billion Hong Kong dollars. These projects have covered areas ranging from 500 to 45,000 square meters of Net Operational Floor Area (NOFA). He has full stack experience include assessing user workflows and needs, translating them into relevant documents, calculating budgets, planning manpower, designing layouts, managing procurements and tenders, overseeing outcome evaluation, and providing support during handover and defect follow-up.
