We are delighted to invite you to join us on 5 May 2026 for a special cultural event “Chinese Strings Hum Operatic Rhymes; Scholarly Spirits Cradle the Stage”, celebrating the beauty of Chinese music, Cantonese opera and scholarly publications. ✨

Co-organised by the Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre of Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the Chinese Music Project and the University Library, the event will present an enriching programme of Chinese instrumental music, Cantonese opera performance and new books sharing.

This event will mark the first public performance by students of the HKMU Chinese Music Project. 🎶 We are also honoured to have Professor LUI Yu-hon and Dr Kelly CHAN Kar-yue perform selected Cantonese opera excerpts🎤, together with the introduction of two new publications on Cantonese opera research. 📖 In resonance with the current exhibition in the University Library, “Resplendent Attire and Graceful Demeanor: The Cantonese Opera Costume Exhibition”, the event offers a unique opportunity to experience the artistry, heritage and continuing vitality of Chinese Music and Cantonese opera through performance, reading and exhibition. We warmly welcome you all to join us for this inspiring and culturally rich occasion.

📣 This event is open to all HKMU staff and students, as well as members of the public.
