Call for Abstracts

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University is pleased to announce that the International Conference on Gerontechnology 2026 (ICG 2026) will take place on 23 June 2026. It will adopt an in-person mode. The theme of the conference is: “Advancing Global Engagement In Novel Gerontechnology”.
We are now calling abstract submissions for the conference on the following sub-themes:
  1. Exergaming and recreational innovations for positive ageing: Highlighting interactive gaming solutions that combine physical exercise with entertainment to improve fitness, cognitive health, and leisure activities while encouraging global research collaborations.
  2. Innovations in health monitoring and wellness technologies: Focusing on cutting-edge tools for health tracking, assistive medical devices, and self-esteem-enhancing technologies to promote proactive ageing worldwide.
  3. Smart environments and assistive solutions for daily living: Exploring novel smart home systems and adaptive environments that support independent living, safety, and accessibility for older adults across diverse global contexts.
  4. Enhancing mobility, accessibility, and social connectivity: Addressing advancements in mobility aids, autonomous transportation, and communication platforms that foster governance, social inclusion, and cross-cultural engagement to reduce isolation in ageing populations.
  5. AI-driven personalisation and predictive care: Exploring the application of artificial intelligence in customizing assistive technologies, predictive health analytics, and intelligent companionship systems to enhance quality of life, prevent age-related declines, and foster international collaborations in ethical artificial intelligence deployment for older adults.
The abstracts submitted should follow these requirements:

Applicants should indicate whether “Poster Presentation”, “Oral Presentation” or “No Preference” is preferred in the submission portal here. Kindly note that you may be allocated a mode of presentation that is different from your preferred choice. This will be communicated in advance of the meeting.
Poster Presentation Guidelines
All posters should be printed in advance and brought to the conference by the presenters. The posters must be printed in portrait size: 841 mm (W) x 1189 mm (H). The title should be emphasised using bold-face type. When displayed, the letters used should not be smaller than 15 mm. The subtitle, if applicable, should be printed in the font style, but semi-bold and not less than 10 mm high when displayed. This guarantees clear reading even from a distance of 2 metres. The text should be interspersed with the inclusion of figures. The use of colour makes the poster more attractive and effective. Indicate at the back of the poster, at the bottom left corner, your allocated presentation number, full name, and Faculty.
Submitting Your Accepted Poster
In addition to the paper poster presentation, we invite you to upload an electronic version of your paper poster by 9 June 2026, to be featured on our conference website. The file size should be below 25MB. It should be in PDF format. Format for the filename: [presentation no.]_[full name]_[Faculty], e.g. P1.5_CHAN Siu Ming_Nursing.
Printing and Mounting
  • Presenters are required to print and bring their own posters to the Conference.
  • Posters will be mounted using Velcro strips (provided on-site).
  • Each poster board will be labeled with your poster number.
Poster Set-Up and Removal
  • Set-Up Time: 23 Jun 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Removal Time: 23 Jun 2026, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Posters not removed after the designated time will be discarded.
Oral Presentation Guidelines
Oral Presentation must be made in English and should make use of PowerPoint slides formatted in 16:9 ratio. They should be sent at in advance to icg2026@hkmu.edu.hk by 16 June 2026.
On the day, speakers should arrive 10 minutes in advance, and have 15 minutes to deliver their presentations followed by 5 minutes of questions and answers. Each room is equipped with a laptop computer and a LCD projector. Speakers are encouraged to use the on-site computer to ensure stable connections. If speakers must use their own laptops, please bring all the necessary adapters which are compatible with the projector. Speakers must set up and check the equipment in the presentation room at least 30 minutes before the session starts.

There will be prizes for:
  1. Poster Presentation
  2. Oral Presentation
  3. Student Award
Criteria for selection and scoring:
  1. Originality of the work: The extent to which the work is innovative in terms of its sources of information, approach, design, and/or analysis.
  2. Study design: clarity and design, as well as appropriateness of methodology: The extent to which the methods and approaches are appropriate, including the use of appropriate statistical analysis.
  3. Organisation, structure and clarity: the abstract is written in an organised and structured manner. The quality of the presentation in terms of accuracy, clarity, readability, and organisation.
  4. Validity of the results: Correct interpretation of results
  5. Scientific Merit and Significance of the work: the work should have significant contributions to gerontechnology with an emphasis on theoretical and/or practical development.
  6. Relevance to the Conference: the topic of the submission should be a relevant one of the five sub-themes listed above.
Award Presentation
Certificates will be presented to the winners at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.
Notification of Acceptance
Notification of abstract acceptance will be provided through individual emails. During the abstract evaluation, the author’s preferred presentation format (Oral/Poster) will be considered; however, the decision as to the mode of presentation rests with the scientific subcommittee.
 
Abstract Modification or Withdrawal
Abstracts can be modified and submitted on the EasyChair portal until the deadline. To withdraw your abstract after submission and/or acceptance, please email your request to the ICG 2026 Secretariat at icg2026@hkmu.edu.hk.
 
Consent for the use and re-use of contents
Once submitted, the abstract is considered to have all co-authors' consent for future publication online and/or in print, as well as for future advertisement.
The contents may be edited by the organiser of the Conference to ensure clarity and accuracy.
