This covers areas such as educational psychology, curriculum studies, sociology of education, special educational needs, information technology in education, professional issues and English language teaching methodology.
This includes Grammar, Sociolinguistics, Semantics, Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis and Stylistics and explorations of the past, present and future of English, and the role of creativity in everyday and literary language use.
These courses provide a foundation for the language studies and education courses.
One key highlight of the programme is teaching practicum. In Year 3, students will spend one term (14 weeks) in a local primary school serving as an intern and a pre-service teacher, followed by another 6 weeks of teaching practice in a local secondary school in Year 4. This arrangement allows students to teach in either primary or secondary school upon graduation with our cross-sectoral degree.
Students will also get a taste of how a local school is run through on-site observation for a week in Year 2.
