Enhancing Teaching and Research Collaboration – Visit to West China Hospital of Sichuan University

Professor Andy Chin, Dean of the School of Education and Languages at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and Dr Emily Ge, Programme Leader of the Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Child Language Disorders and Deputy Director of the Research Institute for Bilingual Learning and Teaching (RIBiLT), recently visited the West China School of Medicine and West China Hospital of Sichuan University for academic exchange and collaboration discussions.

The delegation toured key facilities, including hearing assessment rooms, speech rehabilitation training areas, the audiology laboratory, and demonstration teaching spaces. The visits offered insights into the Center's clinical services, teaching operations, interdisciplinary collaborations, and its well-established training system in speech rehabilitation. Both sides also discussed how rehabilitation technologies can be more effectively integrated into higher education and how curricula can be aligned with clinical practice.

During the visit, Professor  Chin delivered a keynote titled “Inclusive Education in Multilingual Contexts: Practices and Challenges,” highlighting the urgency of addressing language disorders in multilingual settings. Dr Emily Ge followed with a lecture on “The Impact of Bilingual Exposure on Language Acquisition in Children with Autism,” and introduced the programme structure and development direction of the Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Child Language Disorders (MScCSCLDF).

Professor Zhaoli Meng, Deputy Director of the Center, engaged in meaningful discussions on resource sharing, joint talent training, and research collaboration. Several preliminary agreements were reached, creating future opportunities for MScCSCLDF student clinical placement and research development.
