Aims
– To promote excellence in English writing by providing students with a platform to express their thoughts on life issues and demonstrate their creativity.
– The winning submissions will be published in the E&L Outstanding Student Writings Journal and on the School website.
Target students
– All full-time undergraduates of School of Education and Languages, HKMU are eligible.
Entry Categories
– (A) Argumentative essay on the theme “AI will replace writers. Do you agree?” (1000 – 1300 words)
– (B) Poem/Song (no word limit)
– (C) Prose/Verse (no word limit)
– (D) Short story/Dramatic script (no word limit)
– Categories (B), (C) and (D) can be on the theme “AI” or any other themes.
Prizes
For each category:
– First Prize: $2000 HKD cash voucher + Certificate
– Second Prize: $1000 HKD cash voucher + Certificate
– Third Prize: $500 HKD cash voucher + Certificate
– Merits: $250 (each) HKD cash voucher + Certificate
Judges
– Famous writers in English will be the adjudicators of the Competition. All submissions will be judged anonymously by the Selection Panel and the adjudicators of the Competition.

Latest News: Extended Deadline for E&L Writing Competition
To accommodate students who were unable to participate due to the exam period conflicts, the journal committee has extended the competition deadline to August 31, 2025. Please note:
– Submission guidelines and rules remain the same.
– For fairness, students who submitted essays on or before May 31 may also submit revised versions by the new deadline.
