Eligibility

To be eligible for advanced standing/credit transfer at the University, a qualification must be:

  1. at a level not lower than Level 4 in the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework or equivalent; and
  2. obtained from a recognized institution which is accredited, with high standing in the home country and with an assessment arrangement which is up to internationally acceptable standards; and
  3. achieved by study and examination, qualifications obtained by means of exemption are not eligible for advanced standing/credit transfer.

Total Credit Value (TCV)

A qualification which is eligible for advanced standing is assigned a Total Credit Value (TCV).

If the TCV of a qualification = 0, the qualification is not eligible for any transfer credits. Applicants should not apply with such qualification(s).

Lists of qualifications which have been assessed by the University are available for reference. If a qualification is not on the lists, it means that the qualification has not yet been assessed and therefore the TCV is not known yet.

Applicants may check the information on local or overseas qualifications which have been assessed by the University for advanced standing/credit exemption from the following lists:

  1. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Hong Kong
  2. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – China, China & H.K., Taiwan
  3. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Other Asian Countries
  4. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Europe except U.K.
  5. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – U.K., U.K. & H.K.
  6. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – U.S.A., U.S.A. & H.K.
  7. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Canada, Canada & H.K.
  8. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Australia, Australia & H.K., New Zealand
  9. TCV for applications towards undergraduate and sub-degree programmes – Other Countries

Please note that the qualifications were assessed based on the normal mode of study of the qualification offered by the institutions concerned.  The University may review the TCV of qualifications as and when necessary.

Maximum Entitlement

Each applicant is only allowed to accept transfer credits up to his/her maximum entitlement. The maximum entitlement of an applicant is determined by the TCV of his/her previous qualification(s). If more than one qualification is being held, the maximum entitlement will be determined in accordance with the highest TCV.

An applicant's maximum entitlement in a programme is subject to the maximum advanced standing allowed in a programme.
