Zoe Chan Tsz-sheung, student of the International Hospitality and Attractions Management programme, is one of the scholarship awardees. With her excellent academic performance, she has been awarded the Dean’s List for three times.
Eight students from Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) were awarded the Link University Scholarship 2021/22, receiving HK$20,000 each.
The scholarship aims to encourage local students who are the first among three generations in their families to attend university in Hong Kong. Last year, for the first time, application for the scholarship was opened to students from self-financed universities, attracting a record high of over 2,000 applications. After an Interview Day, 220 awardees were finally selected, among them were 13 students from self-financed universities, including eight HKMU students.
Zoe Chan Tsz-sheung, Year 4 student of the International Hospitality and Attractions Management programme, is one of the HKMU awardees. Being the only child in her family, Zoe is glad that she is able to meet her parents’ expectation to enter university among three generations. She is also grateful for the extensive support by the dedicated HKMU lecturers throughout the past four years, which helped her excel academically and making her a Dean’s List awardee for three times. “I did not do well in one of the assignments thus seeking advice from a lecturer. She then replied to me with a full-page email, identified areas of improvement and provided constructive feedback. Thanks to her commitment, I achieved great results in the final examination.” As a passionate volunteer, Zoe is also regularly devoted to community services. In a volunteer competition she took part, she designed simple steps to teach the elderly how to use smartphones seemingly so to stay connected with their family members. Zoe was crowned the championship and won a chance to attend the Internet Governance Forum in Mexico organized by the United Nations.
Ms Elaine Tam Yi-lam, HKMU Director of Student Affairs said, “This is the first time the scholarship scheme accepted applications from students of self-financed universities in the year 2021/22. The excellent results achieved by the HKMU students are a testament to their outstanding achievements in academic studies and community services. The University will continue to enrich student life through a wide range of development programmes and support services, foster their whole-person development and enable them to realize their full potential.”
