The University is deeply thankful for the thoughtful gift from Ms Mok's estate, which is one of the most significant contributions from the community in support of the development of the new Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare.
The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has recently received an estate donation of HK$30 million from the executrixes of the Estate of the late Ms Mok Sau-king in support of the development of its new campus — Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare, and in memory of the late Mr Mok Yu-yan, the father of the donor.
At today’s (26 September) cheque presentation ceremony, Chairman of the OUHK Council Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam expressed his sincere gratitude to the executrixes Ms Barbara Mok Wai-kun, Ms Betty Yip Yuk-bing, and family members of the late Ms Mok Sau-king for their wholehearted support to the University. He remarked that the gift is very meaningful to the University, “As a self-financing university, the OUHK receives no regular government subsidy and relies much on the support from the community to further its development and to help deserving students to reach their full potential. Therefore, the donation from Ms Mok’s estate is truly a blessing to both the OUHK and its students, enabling the University to improve its campus facilities and enhance the student learning experience.”
The donation will be used to fund the construction of the new OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare. Mr Michael Wong added that the generous gift from Ms Mok's estate is one of the most significant contributions from the community to support this meaningful initiative. The University is deeply grateful for the generous donation, which represents an endorsement of the efforts of the OUHK and recognition of the University's unique education mission.
The late Ms Mok Sau-king was a dedicated educator, having served as Principal Lecturer at various Colleges of Education in Hong Kong prior to her retirement. Her father, the late Mr Mok Yu-yan, was a Chinese Manager of Butterfield & Swire in the 1930s. Ms Mok was extremely devoted to supporting education and charity projects and had made immense contributions to various local institutions including The University of Hong Kong during her lifetime.
To meet the rising healthcare demands of Hong Kong's ageing population, the OUHK embarked on a HK$850-million campus development project on Sheung Shing Street, Ho Man Tin in 2017. The new OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare will be home to a suite of academic programmes aimed at nurturing the next generation of healthcare and nursing professionals to address community needs. It is expected that about 2,800 students will benefit from the new learning facility every year upon its completion in 2020.
