The programme aims to offer education and training in film studies, script writing, and film and media production with a focus on critical thinking and creative writing. Upon graduation, students will have the knowledge to appreciate and produce critiques on film and literature of different genres. Students will acquire the skills to write in different genres (such as fiction, screen writing, play writing, and film criticism). Furthermore, students will learn to express their ideas in digital video shooting and master the techniques in film and video production. Various areas of knowledge and skills of media writing and production are also covered in the curriculum; these include advertisement, television production, drama, news reporting and editing, etc. The programme aims to foster talents for a new era of creative industries, which is burgeoning not only in Hong Kong but also in mainland China.
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
(a) | Master the skills in novel writing, screen writing and film criticism; |
(b) | Produce critiques on creative writings of different genres; |
(c) | Put into practice the knowledge learned in the history, theory and aesthetics of world cinema; and |
(d) | Master the techniques and skills in film and video production. |

Opportunities for postgraduate studies in film studies, film production, literature, design, media, or related fields such as performance studies and communication, are available in Hong Kong and abroad.
To be considered for admission to this programme, students shall have to satisfy the General Admission Requirements set by the Hong Kong Metropolitan University and the specific requirements of the programme.
