Biography

May CHEN joined HKMU in 2023, bringing with her a wealth of legal expertise and experience. Prior to entering academia, she worked as a legal professional in a variety of fields, including corporate law compliance, international commercial contracts, financial contracts, labour contracts, and property management disputes. Seeking to further develop her legal skills and research expertise, she pursued a Master of Law in International Commercial Law and Practice at the University of Sheffield in the UK.

Driven by a growing interest in legal research and university teaching, May embarked on a PhD study in e-commerce law at CityU, with a particular focus on consumer protection issues in online shopping platforms in China. During her time at CityU, she taught postgraduate law courses in the Law School, sharing her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of legal professionals. Following the completion of her PhD, May joined HKU as a post-doctoral fellow, where she was undertaking a law and policy project and teaching interdisciplinary lessons that demonstrate how social policy and law knowledge can be applied in an interdisciplinary manner.
