HKMU signs MOU with Marriott International Hong Kong to nurture talents for tourism and hospitality industry

Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and Marriott International Hong Kong has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support quality education and training in sustainable tourism and hospitality management.

The MOU was signed by Dean of the School Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming and representatives of the Marriott hotels joining the collaboration.  Under the MOU, both parties will work closely to steer the development of responsible tourism and hospitality management through offering internships, management training and business case studies to students of related disciplines.

In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Prof. Au said, “Being one of the largest hospitality brands in the world, Marriott International is at the forefront of sustainable practices and initiatives in hotel management.  This aligns with our School’s commitment in advocating and supporting responsible management education, which also formed the basis on which our Hotel and Sustainable Tourism Management Programme was developed.”

Director of Human Resources of Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers Mr Bernard Kam, representing Marriott International Hong Kong, highlighted Marriott's Put-People-First culture as one of their core values, “People play a very critical role.  We always put people first.  With the establishment of this meaningful and promising partnership with HKMU, we look forward to seeing more and more young and energetic talents joining our community.”

This year, 16 HKMU's students majoring in Hotel and Sustainable Tourism Management have been granted internship opportunities across five of Marriott International Hong Kong's hotels.
