Biography

Dr Joseph Lau is an interdisciplinary educator committed to bridging business administration, linguistics, and educational psychology in meaningful, practice‑oriented ways. He is passionate about empowering learners to think clearly, express themselves with confidence, and develop the leadership capacities needed to navigate today’s complex and rapidly changing world.

A Chartered Linguist and Chartered Manager, Dr Lau combines deep theoretical grounding with broad professional experience in his role at HKMU. His career has spanned vocational language training, educational consulting, and assessment design, working with diverse learners and institutions across sectors and levels of study.

Dr Lau’s teaching philosophy is practical and learner‑centred: he designs learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to real‑world decisions, workplaces, and communities. Beyond the university, he is actively involved in community education, offering non‑profit sessions on self‑improvement, ethics, and communication to support personal and professional growth.

An avid creative writer, Dr Lau has published poetry that explores themes of identity, resilience, and human connection, reflecting his enduring interest in how language shapes culture, inner life, and relationships.
