Alumni Affairs Office of Public Affairs Unit organized the talk ‘Banking Industry Prospects and Manpower Requirement’  on 19 January 2010. The talk was given by DBS Bank’s Institutional Banking Managing Director Mr Steven Lai who has over 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He suggested that financial institutions in Hong Kong should expand their business in mainland China. As Hong Kong’s financial market is mature with numerous products, the city can serve as an ideal place for mainlanders to invest their money. Hong Kong should also take advantage of its abundant bank deposits and massive in-flow of mainland money to boost its wealth management businesses. And as a Chinese city with no restriction on foreign exchange, Hong Kong will serve as a trial platform for the international and offshore trading of Renminbi. He advised students who have a chance to enter the banking industry to work hard for relevant professional qualifications. Over 100 students and alumni attended the talk.
